Spring has finally arrived, and we can’t wait to get out of our winter clothes and step into a new, fresh look to welcome warmer weather. As usual, there were many trends that came down the Spring 2014 runways we can’t wait to get our hands on, but there is one trend in particular that is a Gurjot New York favorite this season – stripes. From bright, candy-colored separates to graphic black and white, there is a stripe for everyone this season. Not only is this print timeless, it can also be extremely flattering. Vertical stripes elongate the body while those cut on a bias hug the silhouette perfectly to show off your curves. And horizontal stripes aren’t the nightmare some people make them out to be. As long as you’re dressing in a silhouette that’s flattering to you, any type of stripe will do.

 stripes

Here at Gurjot New York, we’re ready to earn our style stripes this spring and do it our way. As always, we believe looking and feeling great comes first in the workplace because it ups your confidence and prepares you for whatever the day may bring. For us, this means incorporating runway trends into our working wardrobe. Luckily with stripes, this is quite the easy task. Not only are pinstripes flattering a professional, we use them quite a bit in our Ready Collection. If you’re not finding exactly what you want there, you can customize a shirt dress, button-up collared shirt or blouse with one of the many striped fabrics we have available for our Bespoke pieces. Want a striped silk lining but aren’t ready for a full-on custom garment? Shop our GNY Ready Select collection to customize a ready garment’s lining or change the fabric of a silk blouse for a small fee. No matter how you’re looking to wear stripes this spring, we have your back!

Slip into Silk

Sterl on Style

The first day of spring has sprung and if you live in New York and other parts of the country you may still be experiencing the unusually cold weather.

By simply adding a pop of color with a silk blouse, you can freshen up those dark suits you own and take your look effortlessly from winter to spring.

Adding a pop of color is a great way to bring some SPRING into your wardrobe, and also a way to differentiate yourself and become memorable.

“In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different” Coco Chanel said 100 years ago. She was defining what it meant for a woman to become memorable and influential in what she wears even before “personal branding” had become all the rage.

How will you differentiate yourself?

I help my clients become memorable in business by showing them how to choose a signature color.

As in… “Who was that woman in that gorgeous purple blouse…?!”

The power of color is potent. Colors have an energy, whether calm-and-cool blue, or ready-for-action red. By wearing color you can help your own level of energy and convey to others a sense of excitement or serenity.

Explore colors according to your eye color, or what will enhance your complexion For example, someone with hazel eyes and brown hair could wear spring green to make her eyes sparkle.

My mom wears pastel pink because it flatters her alabaster skin and silver hair and simply because it also makes her happy. When you are feeling happy you will inspire others. As a woman, she likes to differentiate herself from the men in business—equal, yet different with her feminine flair.

Your suitings are investment pieces that become the core of your wardrobe in stable colors like navy, grey, black, brown, and pinstripes.

Gray suiting evokes wisdom; enhance it with elegant eggplant purple or soft lavender.

A navy suit expresses trust, and popping it with orange adds an optimistic message.

Classic black is brought to life by popping exciting fuchsia that’s bright and lively, adding color to your cheeks.

Brown suiting looks rich enhanced with a soft cream for an understated, timeless elegance that conveys stability and experience.

The Gurjot New York signature Biscayne dress envelopes you in comfort inside and out as the lining is also in silk for a sumptuous way to smooth out your curves. It’s a gorgeous piece you can accentuate with your jewels that will take you from desk to dinner!

The quality of silk is a great investment buy. It feels luxurious to the skin and is a quality fiber that adds posh and richness to your look.

Gurjot New York is ready with a colorful array of blouses and dresses that can express your professional message, as well as your unique personality.

No one can argue the tailored collar shirt is a wardrobe staple. Whether you’re a man or woman, have been dressing yourself for years or are just starting to build your wardrobe, this piece is the foundation of so many outfits from work to weekend. Yes, it’s perfect under a suit, tucked into a sleek pencil skirt or even worn under a tailored dress. But as a new season approaches, we are looking to the  Spring 2014 Paris runways where the tailored shirt was a bonafide trend, worn every which way imaginable. From a classic suit styling at Saint Laurent to Alexander Wang’s oversize boyfriend shirt at Balenciaga, there is no better time than the present to add a few button ups to your wardrobe.

barrington shirt

Here at Gurjot New York, we are the tailored collar shirt’s number one fan, wearing it everywhere from work to the weekend. Not only does it look classy any way you style it, a button up is put together and comfortable. Our Barrington Shirt is, of course our favorite, for many different reasons. Available in three classic colors, you can switch up your work look daily, looking put together any way you wear it. Say goodbye to unsightly gapping at the bust when you move your arms – the Barrington is designed with our signature S-curve, a design detail that puts a little extra fabric where women need it most to keep your outfit in place no matter how much you’re running around. Not only will it become your favorite workday staple, you won’t want to take it off, pairing it with jeans, boots and a great spring sweater on the weekends. Wear it all the way buttoned up with a great statement necklace or leave it unbuttoned as far down as you dare for a sleek nighttime look. No matter how you style it, the classic tailored collar shirt will always pull your outfit together.

Take a tip from the spring runways this season and button up our classic Barrington, available at gurjotnewyork.com.
