Style of the Times

My favorite looks from the Golden Globes this year are those with sleek lines, interesting architectural details, and those that, regardless of silhouette, convey the understated glamour and sophistication that is my fantasy of Hollywood.

My #1 pick for Hollywood glamour and sophistication is Jennifer Lawrence in a red Dior Couture gown. The gown is impactful while being understated. The panel covering her abs while highlighting the obliques is sexy and unexpected, and the inversed curve of the top panel hits her silhouette in the perfect spot to emphasize the beauty of her body. Simple and breathtakingly elegant.

Second place is Kirsten Dunst in black Valentino. Who knew three tiny bands of string so perfectly placed could say so much?

Third place is a tie for showcasing their looks in white so well, and proving that you don’t have to show skin to be sexy. White is a statement in and of itself, and both Jane Fonda and Laverne Cox used it to their spectacular advantage. Jane Fonda conveyed her sophistication and confidence in a slim white YSL by Hedi Slimane gown with ruffled plumage that makes her look like royalty. Laverne Cox in Elizabeth Kennedy achieved perfect effortlessness with a draping train and deep V back.
None of these looks are asking for anything or are trying too hard; they simply exist in beauty and elevate the grandeur and presence of the women wearing them.
Glamour is in the thoughtful details that appear effortless. Definitely something we believe in and strive for at Gurjot New York. What aspects of Hollywood glamour can you incorporate into your work wardrobe this season?

Now that spring is in full bloom, we’re finally shedding our cold-weather layers to make way for new pieces. There were a ton of approachable trends on the Spring 2014 runways, but perhaps the most wearable of them all was pastels. Timeless and feminine, this toned-down color palette was given a fresh update by some of our favorite designers. From menswear-inspired suits at Jason Wu to a curve-enhancing dress at Prabal Gurung, this is the type of trend that travels seamlessly from work to weekend.
Here at Gurjot New York, we are head-over-heels for spring pastels and are integrating them into our working wardrobes as much as possible. And there is no better way to sport this trend at the office than with a silk blouse. An essential foundation to the suit, we love a sleeveless blouse this time of year because it keeps us cool as the temperatures rise. Our Sleeveless Silk Barrington Shirt is available in both sage and rose, two pretty pastels that pair with just about every color from navy to grey. If you want to rock the trend but are looking for different hues and silhouettes, we have a variety available to customize a shirt with both our Custom and Ready Select lines. If you’re looking for a simple way to upgrade your wardrobe for spring, a luxurious silk shirt in one of spring’s lovely, refined pastels is the absolute best way to change up your look.

It’s been more than a month since our little friend Puxatony Phil saw his shadow on a cold morning, a message to all of us we have six more weeks left of winter. The good news is, it’s almost been six weeks, so spring could be just around the corner. The great news? Our end-of-season sale features our most luxurious cold-weather pieces at $50 off.
We know you’re thinking about spring and all of the florals and dresses and sandals you’re dying to wear, but now is the time to invest in those pieces you’ve had your eye on all season. Not to mention, the way this weather has been, we could be facing another month of freezing cold temperatures. A few new winter pieces to wear once or twice now will make your wardrobe feel a little more luxurious, and you’ll be ready to take on the season in style when it circles back around.

Velvet is one of our favorite fabrications because it’s rich, luxurious and a true classic that will never go out of style. In fact, it was a huge trend on the runways as of late, giving you even more of a reason to stock up before this season’s stock is completely gone. If you still need to add a few pieces featuring this palatial pile to your wardrobe, we have the look you want in the perfectly tailored fit you need. Not only can you get our gorgeous velvet and flannel plaid Manhattan Dresses for $50 off, the same goes for our luxurious Mercedes Wrap and velvet scarves. Whether you want to build up your wardrobe for next fall or wish to spend the last few weeks of winter wrapped in opulent style, now is the time to buy.

No one can argue the tailored collar shirt is a wardrobe staple. Whether you’re a man or woman, have been dressing yourself for years or are just starting to build your wardrobe, this piece is the foundation of so many outfits from work to weekend. Yes, it’s perfect under a suit, tucked into a sleek pencil skirt or even worn under a tailored dress. But as a new season approaches, we are looking to the Spring 2014 Paris runways where the tailored shirt was a bonafide trend, worn every which way imaginable. From a classic suit styling at Saint Laurent to Alexander Wang’s oversize boyfriend shirt at Balenciaga, there is no better time than the present to add a few button ups to your wardrobe.
Here at Gurjot New York, we are the tailored collar shirt’s number one fan, wearing it everywhere from work to the weekend. Not only does it look classy any way you style it, a button up is put together and comfortable. Our Barrington Shirt is, of course our favorite, for many different reasons. Available in three classic colors, you can switch up your work look daily, looking put together any way you wear it. Say goodbye to unsightly gapping at the bust when you move your arms – the Barrington is designed with our signature S-curve, a design detail that puts a little extra fabric where women need it most to keep your outfit in place no matter how much you’re running around. Not only will it become your favorite workday staple, you won’t want to take it off, pairing it with jeans, boots and a great spring sweater on the weekends. Wear it all the way buttoned up with a great statement necklace or leave it unbuttoned as far down as you dare for a sleek nighttime look. No matter how you style it, the classic tailored collar shirt will always pull your outfit together.
Take a tip from the spring runways this season and button up our classic Barrington, available at gurjotnewyork.com.

Here in NYC, fashion week is in full swing, and the fall 2014 collections are coming in hot. We are about halfway through the week and still have a bunch of shows to look forward to like Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta and Donna Karan this coming week. There is nothing like watching the streets for inspiration because we love to see what editors, models and other show-goers are wearing to the tents, Milk Studios and all the other venues (hello Alexander Wang across the river in Brooklyn). As we anticipate the new trends for fall, there is one look in our minds that will never go out of style: the cinched waist.
Here at Gurjot New York, we really believe accessories make the outfit. Because what is the point of wearing a beautifully tailored suit, gorgeous evening gown or even jeans and a tee shirt if you don’t love your shoes and handbag? A great statement necklace or hat can turn a simple outfit into something extraordinary. And the one accessory we could not live without is a really great belt. No matter what year or how billowy or boxy the silhouettes are from season to season, a cinched waist will always look polished and on-trend. Which is why we always reach for our Forever Reversible Belt, designed with the softest black leather on one side and luxurious silver silk on the other. Not too skinny and not too wide, it really is perfect to accessorize every outfit.
How are we wearing the Forever Reversible Belt during New York Fashion Week? A sheath dress with a blazer makes for the perfect daytime office look. But come nighttime, we’re ditching the jacket and adding the belt for a picture-perfect look to rock at all the designer after parties. Want to give that big winter coat a more shapely appearance? Tie on our versatile belt and suddenly your outerwear becomes the outfit. The same goes for an oversized sweater with a great pair of slender ankle length pants – just add our belt and your favorite pair of loafers for a polished weekend look.
